At the Rhaetian Railway (RhB), the 500th car body arrived at the end of November, which had been manufactured at the Altenrhein plant for the Grisons narrow-gauge network over the past 60 years. The car was delivered as part of a Capricorn multiple unit by Stadler Rail. On the occasion of this milestone anniversary, the entire train was decorated in a festive champagne-themed design and named «Piz Palü».

The new train is part of the largest rolling stock procurement in the history of the RhB. In the future, 56 Capricorn trains will be operating in the Grisons region, solidifying the modern appearance of the RhB with their distinctive design. The new trains exude charm and confidence. The front cab, with its high-set headlights and prominently lit Grisons coat of arms, creates a distinctive presence. The interior design offers a high level of comfort with many well-thought-out details for travelers.

During the inauguration of the anniversary train, RhB Director Renato Fasciati announced a small surprise: «Our special Capricorn 3133 is equipped with free Wi-Fi. It won’t be alone in this regard. In the medium term, the entire Capricorn fleet will have Wi-Fi.» In the future, wireless internet in the trains will further enhance travel comfort.

The gradual introduction of the new rolling stock is progressing well and according to plan. 21 trains are already in operation, especially on the Landquart – Davos – Filisur and Landquart – St. Moritz routes. By the end of 2024, the entire Capricorn fleet will be traveling throughout Graubünden.

For passengers (and train enthusiasts!), the Champagne Capricorn will always be a special experience as the “Primus inter Pares” (lat: first among equals)…
